Woohoo, a double divide crossing day. Left camp at 7:15am, cool air. Cloudy day so air was cool until after second crossing. Climb for first crossing was as advertised as “respectable” and found it to be challenging but way less very steep as the first crossing a day earlier. Downhills so quickly change everything!
The first big downhill was through a series of clearcuts… that was new and interesting. Then rolled through some arid treeless hills. A storm came up (wind, thunder) just in time to push us up the second divide crossing. We still had to pedal, but gladly accepted the help. Pretty much had a 15 mile downhill to Helena.
Griff led the way with an awesome 20+ pace the last 10 miles or so on the highway into Helena… good thing as it was ~95 degrees and no shade.
Rest day in Helena… included seeing Moonrise Kingdom last night in a great community arts space. Bikes are washed, groceries restocked, ready to head to Butte and beyond.
Keep on pedaling,
PS.. in downtown Helena there is an awesome mural with a plaque explaining that the mural is in honor of the under appreciated women of Helena. (photo of plaque below)
