In Reserve a nice person informed us that the “monsoons were on crack,” meaning that instead of predictable storms coming at 4pm every afternoon and lasting for 20 minutes, the storms were coming at all times of day and night. Hah, we knew that, but hadn’t labelled it so colorfully. The ride from Reserve to Glenwood was super sweet and included a food stop at the Alma Grill. We were ready to stop and pitched out tent in a dry forest service campground, then wheeled into town where we discovered some nice cabins. Oops… pack up and enjoy a cabin instead! In the morning we had breakfast at the Golden Girls before heading to Silver City. Glenwood to Silver is about 65 miles with the last 35 mainly upish with some long climbs. Halfway is Cliff, where we had lunch at the one place in town, D’s. Clouds were gathering but we were determined to bring the trip to a close. Twice we hopped off our bikes and sheltered in place while the lightening and rain came down around us. Both storms passed quickly and then we rode on wet but in good spirits. The climb into Silver City seemed endless at times but we arrived at the Murray Hotel about 6pm. Yay!
