We had lots of positive interactions with people along the way but there were three sets of Train Angels that arrived at just the right time for us.
Heading up Indiana Pass, the #1 biggest climb on the route, a truck pulled next to Griff with 4 miles to go til the summit… want a lift? Yes! We’d been climbing for 6 hours and a ride to the top was great. They dropped us passed Summitville and we pedaled on to one of our best campsites of the trip. Thank you Vince, Johnnie, Linda and Susie, So glad you were out of a day trip and we crossed paths!
We were facing (and not looking forward to) the toughest climb of the route, about 15 miles between Abiquiu and Cuba AND looking for a ride from Cuba to Grants. Up rolled Eddie and Grace. We caught a ride back to their guest house and then a ride to Grants. Thank you Eddie and Grace, it was great to spend time with you!
And then, there’s Kevin and Jana. Out there in El Malpais (the badlands) when our trailer broke, Kevin and Jana checked in with us to see if we needed help, tooled off, then came back with a “let’s fix this thing attitude.” Thank you!
